Poultry farmers in the country have expressed worry over what they describe as negligence on the part of government in the poultry sector.
They are calling on government and the Trades Ministry to put measures in place to ensure a large capacity in the local production of chicken in the country.
The National Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers, Kojo Asante told Pravda news that the poultry industry has not received much attention from the government as compared to other agricultural activities such as the cocoa sector.
He has been complaining over the high level at which the broiler meat is imported in the country.
“The problem is that with cocoa the government pays serious attention and that’s why Ghana has hit the number they are recording now, government gives them much spray fertilizer and the rest but we the poultry farmers do not have this kind of support but government rather allows importation of the broilers.”
He also emphasized that if the Food and Agricultural Ministry in collaboration with Stake Holders are able to provide support to them then they can feed the whole Ghanaian community.
