The Member of Parliament for Asawase constituency in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka is has expressed worry over what seems to be a battle between the police and the family of the young man who was killed in the cross fire with the police in Kumasi over the weekend. The family of the deceased is vowing to take the matter up to seek justice as they insist their relation and victim Kweku Asante is innocent. The situation which is increasing further tension between the police and family of the deceased has now caught the attention of the Member of Parliament for the area. Speaking in an interview on the ultimate starter on Pravda radio, the MP said “the police called and told me they were just investigating and I should give them a little time. They said they beg of me not to make any comment until they are able to ascertain the truth about all what was happening. I call back and the commander tells me, honorable, all our investigations and checks points to the fact that, that boy was a criminal”. According to him, the matter has left him confused as the assembly man for the area also sides with the family members on the innocence of the victim. “I am trying to see audience with IGP to see whether it is possible for the police to set-up an independent enquiry so that the truth would be revealed” he said. He has also called onto the relations of the victim to stay calm and liaise with the police as they delve deep into the matter.
