Ex-Ghana winger Yaw Preko has told Pravda Sports Premier League clubs must invest in grooming effective youngsters from their youth clubs to raise future stars who will draw back the fans to various league centers.
Until the late 90’s, fans showed much interest in patronizing the domestic league which showcased several top stars who remained in the country for seasons. But, years down the line, clubs who have difficulties in running their operations have resorted to selling their best players to the foreign leagues to raise funds for operational allowance.
This has led to fans shifting focus to the various European leagues especially the English Premier League which they watch on giant’s screens in the country while Ghana Premier League matches are ongoing.
Yaw Preko wants Ghanaian football fans to return to the various stadia and parks to watch the domestic top flight but first insists this can only become a reality if the clubs focus on developing quality youthful star players who will stay in the country for a longer period.
